adactus Market-Eze search |
Hi, I'm Mike Delaney. I'm the Chair of an organisation called Market-Eze.
The idea for Market-Eze came to me not long after I moved into Victoria Court, a Adactus sheltered housing scheme in Openshaw. I was constantly hearing that the two main areas of concern for residents - after maintenance, were laundry and shopping.
Why not try using the Internet to help with the shopping I thought and so Market-Eze was born!
Market-Eze is an independent, constituted residents' organisation with an ambition to grow into a fully-fledged social enterprise, a business which will be run by its customers, who will also be members of Market-Eze.
The idea of Market-Eze is to develop a simple one-stop facility that residents in sheltered accommodation can use to order their weekly shopping and have it delivered to their door. This will all be done through a website that is currently being designed by the people who are going to use it (with the help of Toucan Europe). Once the website is developed, and we have a partnership with a good supplier (we are still working on this), we are going to try the system out at a small number of sheltered schemes to test how well it works.
The support that we have received has been tremendous. Adactus Housing Group are providing support via their Resident Involvement Team and also assistance from the Equal Learning project which is providing I.T. training and Internet access throughout all the Adactus sheltered schemes. From Manchester City Council, we are being guided by the Housing Strategy for Older People team together with the Supporting People and the Valuing Older People teams whilst IT development is being supported by the Manchester Digital Development Agency.
Funding for the pilot has been obtained for the pilot to buy laptops, printers, pay for training and development of the website. The principal funders so far are The Community Foundation, AOL (innovation in the Community) and Adactus HA.
The local Credit Union are interested in providing support for those people who don't possess a Bank Card by collecting cash from the schemes involved and developing a system for transfer of funds either to Market-Eze or direct to the retailer as required.
The ultimate aim is that the project will mature into at least a City-wide scheme and may possibly spread even further afield – the possibilities are limitless. For more information or to offer advice/support/benefits of your experience please contact
